Ever thought of being able to talk with Siri or Alexa in Igbo or Yoruba or Hausa language? Incidentally, that is not possible at the moment because existing speech recognition technologies are not yet available in any African language.

Therefore, the speakers of only African languages are currently excluded from the benefits of voice-enabled technologies. To solve this, NaijaVoice is a project that uses a community-participatory approach to curate speech recordings for Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba languages (the three main languages in Nigeria).

In this talk, I will finally talk about our current proof-of-concept Igwebuike Community which marks the initiation of NaijaVoice for the Igbo language and discuss ways you can contribute to your language.
